Optima Psychiatric Hospital is a psychiatric hospital in the Bloemfontein suburb of Hospitaalpark, accommodating 76 patients. It is operated by a company of nine partners, all psychiatrists, and was taken into use in February 2010. According to the hospital's website, it is open 24 hours a day, its nursing staff are all qualified, and it provides more nursing personnel than legally required. A separate teenage unit, Unit-T, treats teenagers of 13 and older and has fourteen beds. Patients take part in a therapeutic group programme, and occupational therapy is offered. Most rooms have three beds and an en-suite bathroom, and three single rooms are for patients who need specialised care. Admissions are on Sundays from 10:00 to 12:00 by arrangement with the patient's psychiatrist, and the hospital works with medical aids on authorisation for hospitalisation.
