Ruyterwacht Senior Centre is a membership-based centre for people older than 60 in Ruyterwacht, Matroosfontein and Elsies River in Cape Town. It is a program of BADISA, a registered non-profit organisation, and was established in July 1988. According to the centre's website, it serves 200 to 250 senior citizens, 98% of whom live on the government old age pension, with services meant to help them live independently in their community for as long as possible. Services include subsidised meals five days a week, two meetings a week for socialising and educational talks, a blood pressure clinic and a feet care clinic, a library, and subsidised transport to meetings, hospitals and clinics. It also manages 6 boarding houses in which 37 destitute older persons are cared for. Members can take part in a choir, an arts and crafts group, sport and recreation, and outings.
