Sencit Resthaven is an old age home in Strand that cares for destitute elderly people who have nowhere else to go, providing healthcare, food, accommodation and entertainment. The property belongs to the Methodist Church of Southern Africa, and the home was registered in 1976 under the auspices of the Methodist Homes for the Aged. It received NPO status in 2004 and is managed by a committee of volunteers. According to its website the home serves 34 residents, fourteen of whom are wheelchair-bound, and the brick building houses sixteen of them. It employs qualified nursing staff. Income comes mainly from residents' social grants and a Department of Social Development subsidy for those who qualify. The home also takes respite residents for a weekend, a couple of days or weeks.
