The St John Stella Londt Retirement Centre is a retirement centre in Sunridge Park, Port Elizabeth, run by St John. It stands on a 4-hectare estate on land that was once a farm owned by the industrialist William Edward Londt, founder of the Edworks Shoe Company. The centre brings several levels of living together on one site: 62 independent cottages, 32 semi-dependent cottages, 23 assisted-living rooms, 20 frail-care beds and one B&B flat. Published rates are R8,964 to R12,960 a month to rent a one- or two-bedroom cottage, or R891,000 to R1,354,920 on a life right with a monthly levy of R2,052; semi-independent and assisted living run R16,200 to R19,440 a month, and full or frail care R18,360 to R22,896 a month. St John also runs the Stella Londt Assistance Fund, which the organisation says helps subsidise elderly residents who cannot cover necessary expenses - worth asking about directly. Confirm all fees and availability with the centre on 041 360 7979.
