According to the village's website, Strombolis Retirement Village is a life-right retirement village at Harkerville near the N2, between Plettenberg Bay (10 km) and Knysna (20 km). It has 49 residential cottages in a relaxed, informal layout with open spaces, trees, gardens and an earth dam that attracts water birds. Residents must be over the age of 50. The village is a non-profit company managed by a Board of Directors elected by the residents, and the company remains the owner of the cottages. On death or voluntary sale of a life right, currently 70% of the sale price goes to the life-right owner or their estate. A Frail Care and Assisted Living facility on site is currently managed by CareVita, which also provides caring services to cottage residents. Residents pay a monthly levy that covers maintenance, security, management and administration, laundry, ten meals per month, cleaners, gardeners and basic caring assistance.
