Vita Nova Centre is a non-profit residential facility in Daggafontein, Springs, for people with severe intellectual and physical disabilities, including Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome and Autism. Residents range in age from 3 to 81 years, and often arrive with no family support. The centre says it currently has 110 residents, and that many of them need 24-hour care. A basic education programme, run with the Gauteng Department of Education, supports residents aged 3 to 21 years. Some of the more abled residents work in the centre's workshop during the day, packing parts into bags and fitting bath plugs to chains. The centre runs two annual fundraising events, a Fun Day in May and the Mandela Walk for a Cause in July.
