Vygieshof Tehuis is a state-subsidised residential care home in Calitzdorp in the Little Karoo, operating as a service of Badisa, a faith-based social welfare organisation. The home was built in the 1960s and the first residents moved in on 1 December 1966. It provides housing and care for residents, most of whom need a high level of frail care. Residents needing frail care live in the home in single or double rooms. Self-reliant elderly people live in 7 bachelor flats and 4 one-bedroom flats on the premises. According to the home's website, it has cared for people with dementia, mentally and physically disabled people, and frail elderly people, and there is a waiting list for both the home and the flats. Applications are submitted to the home and assessed by both the home and the Department of Social Development.
