Old Age Homeafrikaans community

Huis Vergenoegd is an ACVV service branch in Paarl, Western Cape, at the foot of Paarl Mountain, that houses and cares for older persons. Residents can function safely and independently, take part in a range of activities, and receive balanced meals daily; more dependent residents are also accommodated. The Versorgingsentrum (frail care centre), with capacity for 44 residents, does not admit anyone who is not already a resident of the home, and its empty beds go to residents moving in from the residential units; a separate dementia unit, Huis Ina Rens, has room for 12 residents in three single rooms, three double rooms and one three-bed room. Meals are provided by food-service partner GERATEC, with a choice of two proteins at lunch and the option to follow the MIND diet. New applicants must be older than 68, able to live fully independently, physically and mentally, in a residential unit at the time of admission, and meet a minimum monthly income of R18,500 (R36,500 per couple) (the home does not accept financial contributions from applicants' children or family towards this) before being interviewed by the selection committee for the waiting list.

Pricing

Once-off non-refundable admission fee of R28,000 per person or R48,000 per couple (any unit type), as listed on the home's website with no effective date; it is adjusted every April, so confirm the current amount with the home. Monthly residential-unit rates depend on the unit type and are not published. Application forms cost R300 per person or R600 per couple (also undated).
